SC-816 tape player keeps reversing, won't play cassette

How do you do an adjustment like that with the tape in and the unit back in the car?

Also, does anyone know where the “code” to these radios lives? Like if I switch the faceplate from one radio does the code follow the face plate or does it follow the body of the radio?

When I was doing this all the time,
I had a test setup on the bench with
power and speakers, so that helped.

You should have enough slack in the
car harness to do it in the vehicle.
You may need a pretty long miniature
screwdriver, but there's usually access.

Just be sure to protect any surrounding
surfaces from being scratched up by the
HU. These radios have nasty corners!

If you going to take the time to change the lamp sockets, why not just solder in long life 12V LEDs instead. I like mine in green..

Radio security codes are tied to the VIN of the car at the factory. If you know the VIN number and Mileage of the car that the radio was installed in at the factory, you can get the security code by filling out this form.

The security code is stored in the radio's electronics. You can move a SC-816 from car to car if you know the security code.

If you take the radio part number and serial number from the radio to a dealer. A dealer can get the security code. Some will do it some will not. I think the deciding factor is now much the radio is worth.

If it not worth stealing you might get the code. If it is worth stealing ... the radio code is there to discourage radio thief. Giving out a code to a radio worth stealing without proof of ownership, would render the security measures useless.

Look on the top of the radio. Often service tech and previous owners will mark the code on the radio. The owners manual is another place to look. The previous owner of my S90 went to a picture of the radio in the owners manual and inked the code on the display.

Now get an SC-901 !

SC-901 is great head unit but it's very hard to find a fully working one. Mine has pretty poor fm reception and I don't know why. SC816 is more reliable. Most of them are still working without issues.

The code is stored in of the chips on main PCB. If you replace just faceplate, the code remains the same.
