Noisy fuel pump in S40 Topic is solved

Ive discovered the sound eminating from under the car is in fact the in tank fuel pump.
Its not particularly loud but audable all the same. (Its loud enough when you put your ear next to the tank!)
Its a farly high pitched elactrical sounding hum rather than a mechanical noise.
Is this something I just have to accept or does it require further investigation.
The car is otherwise performing well.
I would welcome your comments.
The car is year 2000 with 73000 miles. S40 2.0 T

I just ran across this board. I had a similar problem. Just picked up my car from the dealer and left to go one block. Heard a noise every few seconds (electrical) noise from the gas tank. They sent it to volvo and they ended up replacing my fuel pump. It drove fine yet the pump was going out. My car is a 2000 with only 42 k! Luckily, the extended warranty covered it

I had a '96 Cadillac DeVille and the fuel pump hummed so loud it drove me nuts. I added a can of "Marvel Mystery Oil" to a full tank of gas and within 3 days the noise was gone. It was still quiet when I sold the car some time later. This is something you can try that will do no harm to your engine even if it doesn't solve your noise problem. If you do try this PLEASE let me know if it works for you.
