Dirty window switch? A tip I got from this site that worked on my 850 is use a spray electrical solvent/cleaner and spray into the switches so some gets under the button. Work the button a bit. That fix on my 850 has lasted 2 years—took about 2 minutes.

I just changed out my 2000 S70 ignition switch on the left side of the steering column and the dash lights stay on when I reconnect the negative battery post. It also wouldn't allow my key to be inserted. I took the negative post back off unplugged the ignition switch and re-installed it reconnecting the negative post and same except the key can be inserted and turned. I have the part still on but unplugged it to conserve the battery. Is this a part of the manufacturers control?

No, something(s) are up there.

The key and the electical part of the ignition switch are separate mechanical things.

DId you use the right switch? There is a chassis break in 1999, so an early P80 switch wont work if you went to the junkyard

AS abscate says there is a part number break. Are you using a new or used part?
