scot850 wrote: 31 Oct 2021, 16:39 So today I got a fuller and complete reply from someone else in Volvo's help team.

The information helps identify 2 Volvo models that are affected and it is in areas of the US and Puerto Rico where there are hot and humid climates.

They also clarified that Canadian supplied vehicles are not affected in this issue.

Below is the information I was given. Please check if you have one of the models and years affected and use the recall web-page on Volvo's web-site to see if your car is included.

This recalls expands cars for 2004-2009 S60 and 2004-2006 S80's This is in all 50 USA States and Puerto Rico. The recall does not apply for vehicles in Canada. Investigations have identified that the cars involved in this recall might be affected by this issue. We are continuing to perform extensive investigations to determine whether other cars might be at risk. The issue only affects cars from a previous product generation. Cars affected are first generation S60 & S80 cars from model years 2001, 2002 & 2003, in hot & humid climate.

Hope this is of help.

Neil.
Thanks Neil.

Interesting that the paragraph from Volvo is contradictory or at best unclear about which years and US locations are now affected/covered, which is not a surprise to me really. On this one I'm not going to bother trying to sleuth out the minutiae and/or who said what - just go by the basic, clear guidelines in the NHTSA announcements and most importantly (at least Volvo was clear on this point) use the web page and see which cars are affected.

Our 2006 S60, originally sold in Iowa and only registered in Iowa, is affected by the recall.
Waiting to see regarding our 07 XC70 but presumably it is too.

Has anyone had luck with Volvo NA arguing that their car may now be ina civilized state, but was moved to or used in a hot and humid state? Seems like the dealer should be able to make this call for you,

I’m not tremendously worried about getting my P2 done, but I grew up traveling in a third rear seat inaseries of 1950s amd 60s Beetle

Might be one of them control freaks that takes a position for less because perceived power is more importation to them then money or getting the job done right. They are all about being Boss not managing ... " I don't answer to you" .
Are only the workers in service sector infected with this virus - any vaccine yet?

What's the definitive source of whether a car has this recall?. I have a 2005 XC70 and a 2006 V70 and neither show in the NHTSA website or the Volvo database. However, since I just bought one and did a recent Carfax, that one shows up as being part of the recall in Carfax. So who to believe and which is the definite source - or is it a matter of time until the various databases get populated/synchronized?

To the people who have had the recall done or know they are eligible, what do these data sources show as to your eligibility?

It is a voluntary recall. Identified and initiated by Volvo.

I guess what I was trying to ask is where to check if a car is covered by the recall. The Volvo site says my cars are not covered, the NHTSA says they are not covered but somehow Carfax thinks one of my cars is part of the recall. So which is right? Is it a matter of being patient for all of the various databases to get updated?

Just call Volvo USA customer service and give them your VIN. If eligible they will tell you to contact your dealer, and your dealer will confirm your VIN and schedule a time for an inspection and possible replacement. Don't bother with the various databases, the manufacturer should know best. For me, Culver City Volvo said the car would be there for 2 days, so I'll try to get a loaner. Honestly I'm not too excited about that as it's my DD, kind of curious as to how long this process will take for others.
