Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information ECM-1517
1Condition
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated if actual boost pressure deviates from calculated boost pressure for the engine control module (ECM). The fault is diagnosed by the engine control module (ECM) when the engine is running.
Substitute value
Limitation of engine output.
Possible source
Hint:
On vehicles of model year 2005 - 2010, this DTC can be stored incorrectly due to incorrect software in the Engine control module (ECM).
Leak or clogged vacuum hoses to the turbo/turbo control valve.
Damaged vacuum unit.
Damaged turbocharger control valve.
Fault symptom
Poor performance.
S40 1.6 diesel 2005
Awesome - thanks very much for the hint...
At <£100 the pair I may just swap the TCV and Vacuum unit and swap the vacuum hoses while I'm at it, then see if I can clear codes and hopefully I won't be able to reprovoke them.
Would a 10yr very sedate driving style possibly contribute to eg the vacuum unit being sticky or the valve not behaving properly? One owner from new and I don't think he ever took the car above 1500rpm

Confirmed by a neighbour mechanic yesterday - not holding vacuum pressure in the turbo lines. Gonna replace all the hoses and the TCV as a first line of attack.
Does the 1.6D have a Boost Control Valve too? Part no for a 2007 MkII?

Don't want to jinx myself but I swapped the Turbo Control Valve and all the vacuum hoses today and so far I've been unable to reproduce the fault which up to now has been fairly easy to bring up.
Job wasn't difficult - parked half and half on a high kerb and TCV was easily accessible once the engine undertray was removed.
In fairness original hoses looked OK but I replaced anyway for completeness.
Car seems 'perkier' which is a good sign and I'll be taking for a proper run tomorrow to hopefully confirm resolution.

Hi, I have a 2009 v50 1.6d..fault code 0101 reading opening circuit and car is still driving but slightly down on power.. I can see now nothing got to do with abs.. All abs sensor working fine steering angle sensor working fine as I was also guided to this so clearly threw reading these post it's engine related, the fault stays on permanent.. I've being told it could be a air flow sensor but I disconnected this and it came up faulty sensor and reconnected and reset the fault so that's prob good.. Any guidance for a permanent open circuit fault?
