OEM battery hold-downs? Other strategies? Topic is solved

Hi All,

Bought a new 650 CCA, size group H5 Everstart from Walmart the other day to replace the prior 720 CCA battery that was in there. The newer one works fine and is closer to the suggested 850 OEM specs, but its about an inch thinner on either side in the tray. While the rear lip of the tray holds the battery fine, I feel like I'm missing a spacer or spacers that could hold it more securely.

I looked up OEM 850 battery hold down and part number 9444282 came up. Its a little black clip-looking thing. How many of these are needed? I've never seen these at the junkyard, nor would I expect to since the batteries are all pulled and I doubt anyone is going to think twice about leaving them in the tray. Are they worth $10 each from ebay, or is a home spun solution a better option here? I have one of those older universal wingnut bracket things that I can adapt to this use. The plastic clips look kinda chintzy.

I just checked usparts.volvocars.com, and where I'm at I could order it for $6.73 and pick it up at the dealer a few miles from my house with no shipping charge. This is cheaper than the Uro version on ebay, which is guaranteed to disintegrate in 2 years or less. I can't really do a lot of custom engineering for that price, though maybe you can.

I see that FCPEURO still has an economic alternative battery hold down. I purchased one recently and it does what is supposed to do. At 79 cents why not eh? Chris

I guess you could buy 5 of them and just plan on replacing them every year when they break.

I bought the Volvo one at $6 to reward them for the most simple and elegantly engineered battery hold down ever. After having to grind off a VAG hOlder and strip a pot metal BMW one, Volvo wins reward

This only works well if the battery has the lips on the lower edge that slide into the corresponding lips on the battery tray.
