So Sveedys engine is still in the shop; apparently there are lots of back-ups occurring due to some labor problems.
But I'm told that It will " be soon ". In the meantime I discovered that the bolts ( 10 ?) that hold the intermediate carrier to the bottom of the block are torque to yield like the head bolts are. I didn't know this, so now I need to get some replacements.
Is there a source for these as well as the Volvo main and rod bearings ? I searched our two most common suppliers but only found some rod bearings. Of course it could be the way I enter the search info. Did find Glyco bearings, but also found some bad reviews of those. The mains come in three different sizes / colors from what I understand, so I'd like a source in case the machinist says I need them.

Well I struck out on all of those. I didn't find volvowebstore but I did find volvopartswebstore. But no diagram with part number that I could find. Didn't see Vida listed anywhere. Ditto on the others as well. Maybe I'm using the incorrect name for those bolts. I've tried " intermediate carrier bolt ", " lower engine block bolt " - any other suggestions ?

Figured out through Haynes that it's the " intermediate section ". 10 x 1.5 mm bolts I think, but still haven't found them. I guess I'll call a dealer and see what they say.

Finally found them through a dealer. The big ones are m10 x 117. In total there are about 40 bolts under there, but I'm guessing that only the big ones are TTY.

I'm dealing with the lower part of the block that captures the crankshaft. It's bolted to the rest of the block using the same anaerobic sealer as the cam cover, from what I can tell. The oil pan bolts up to it, technically.

A great source for nuts and bolts is IPD. They source the MTC equivalents of the Volvo factory fasteners and price them out about half of the factory fastener rate. You could get them on the phone and see what they come up with.

Yes. The head and intermediate section both bolt up to the cylinder block. It was the intermediate section that I was having trouble explaining to the parts suppliers. Would have been better called " lower section ", since intermediate implies " middle " to me.
