Hi
I am replacing the lower steering U-Joint in my '99 S70 GLT.
The old one is out and ready to install new but need to know what the torque specs are for the two
retaining bolts/nuts that hold the joining to the rack and column inside the car and engine side.
Thanks!

Quick addition for these parts. The top joint has a critical safety function of breaking in a front end collision , preventing column forces from being transmitted up to the driver chest.

Last year I replaced the front suspension system- strut assembly - control arms- inner and outer tie rods and there was still this kind of looseness/ center dead spot with steering wheel straight. The rack was in good shape so I suspected the joint but at a recent inspection the Volvo tech said it was- "blasted" If you have that center play but find it engages once you really turn the steering wheel it could be that joint. I hear that normally when it goes it binds and becomes difficult to turn which mine was at a time then worked itself out for a few years to the point where it was too loose and had developed torsional flex in the joint.

I was wondering if you could take a look at these picts and see if the positioning looks right to you.
I did lock the steering wheel to get the joint in place onto the rack initially but then disconnected the interior side to the column joint since had to start the car and lost the lock. I don't think it moved much.
The top of the joint presses nicely in between the yoke of the joint inside the car and the position of the toothed part on the splines of the steering rack look aligned in comparison to the old one.
Essentially the split part on the joint where the securing bolt squeezes it together onto the rack end is lined up with that center notch on the rack.
Do you think I have pressed it too far down the splines on the rack? The old one didn't show the tops of the splines inside the dome of the joint at the top.
Also- no warning dash lights when I started the car.
Thanks!

User orangex has a really good YouTube on this showing the right position clearly.
I think s/he is peppermint on the YouTube channel. Sounds like a guy but we can identify how ever we wish today can’t we? Things I learned from my 10 year old.

True- However anyone wants to present is cool.
The video I found by that user was for S60 V70 XC90 but largely seems to apply to my '99 S70 correct?
Ok- it seems like I am in the ballpark, my steering wheel is re-locked and to do that I needed to turn it slightly left or right but my actual wheels are straight. And the top post of the lower u joint fits in nicely in the upper joint inside the car.
The wing bolt does fit in nicely and the whole joint system seems straight.
I do believe I have pushed the joint down a bit too far on the rack post- I will correct that tomorrow.
Do I need to play with that column joint until the steering wheel is straight and fits onto the post of the lower u-joint with the wheels straight now. Or will I be looking at reposition the steering wheel itself
The lower U-joint was placed with the steering wheel locked and center
