P2 Airbag Campaign October 2021 Airbag Recall is coming

Just returned home from Stillman Volvo, had the airbag recall performed. In and out in less than an hour.
New air bag is charcoal color, matching original.
The whole operation was painless, received the notice three weeks ago, called the dealer, set an appointment 2 weeks away (could have had one the same week) and had the air bag replaced this morning.

Right after they replaced the airbag my driver's seat power controls no longer work for the first time ever?

They better get this problem fixed here at Centiry Volvo in Huntsville AL. I will give them hell and let it be known if they don't.

They got the seat moving again using a PC. I could then move the seat with the controls.

They're excuse is since they had to move the seat back fully to replace the airbag the gears got locked up. I've moved it back all the way countless times to vacuum under the seat. The service guy appeared to be 300lbs+ so I believe his weight caused the seat to lock up.

First and last time I'm taking my P2 to a stealership.

Just had mine done. Service Advisor said all recall airbags are black with no ability to match your original airbag (unless black). Here's a picture of my original and after the recall...not a significant change but not transparent. My wife says " For a 20 y/o car, who cares?" They did a great job washing the car and I was out of there w/i 75 minutes of arriving.

My 35-year-old car almost had its feelings hurt, but I understand the rationale leading me to another thought... it's hard to believe the fantastic ingenuity of these modern (to me) P2s has hit the point where they're considered aged despite how well they continue to live. This further reminds me of when I was talking about some personal XC maintenance to a friend my same age, and he said "wow dude, your car is old!". I refrained from explaining, "but it's ONLY 20 years old!"

I suppose all of this simply pronounces the concept of how beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And yet someone can understand their beholden is a tank, but perhaps realizes descriptive words will forever fall upon deaf ears.

Risk aversion is truly personal. I’ll drive my 64 Ghia on the highway, if I ever hit anything the steering shaft will skewer me like a shish kebab. Meanwhile people are torqued into thinking thst child seats only last 5 years because they are left in hot cars.

Do you ever get that sense I do, of your neighbors kind of looking down their noses at your “old” car?

Sometimes I let it annoy me, but I think to myself, I’ll still have this solid car after you’ve been through 2 or 3 throwaway cars.

I know what you're talking about. There are people in our neighborhood that are too snobbish to even wave back at you in their fancy cars.
But that totally doesn't phase me. I don't drive the cars I (we) drive because I try to please others or get their approval. I (we) drive our Volvo's because we enjoy them for what they are, safe, solid and dependable transportation. And we totally get a kick of not having any car payments

The new car snobs are just 'wearing' flashy clothes. What is way more cool is when someone shows appreciation for the cool old car you have and drive.

We have a good friend and neighbor. She gets a new CR-V / cuv / something-or-other every couple of years (because something might go wrong with an older car!!) We share rides between clans to University basketball games in the winter. We all have fun. But when I drive, there's invariably a comment about the loose passenger mirror housing rattling, or some other little thing. "Did you know this was loose?" Like it's all falling apart and I pay no attention. Pretty funny. She even had a Volvo wagon long ago, but "had to get rid of it, it was getting old." My old Seattle neighbors had new Suburbans and posh cars, didn't understand me. "Why not just sell that old Alfa and buy Microsoft stock, you'll make way more?"
