ATE forbids directly lubricating those pins :) They prescribe changing them semi-frequently, along with the rubber boots.

I lube them, too, though ;)
Wow...did not know that! Damn maybe I'll get new pins the next time, after all these are original. Thanks!
I suspect the Do Not Lubricate rule is because of concerns any lube will attract dirt and cause more binding/sticking. If you drive in dirty/dusty conditions the lubricant may do more harm than good. Cleaner road conditions may not attract much dirt to the guide pins. Since I do not drive on dirt roads, I will lubricate my pins.

When I return from my wilderness trips I usually have to overhaul the suspension (at least disassemble and clean of all rocks/debris). Lubricated pins were never a problem. Though racing and braking hard may cook the grease quicker, but that's what ceramic brake grease is designed for, right?

Agree with vtl and volvolugnut - I clean and lubricate the caliper pins periodically. I use Sil-glyde on those.

Restored sunroof after months of rattle. Four new six-point screws and accordion like Sunroof Cover aka MODESTY PANEL.
Here is a great product for rubber seals for wet application:

WOOF!

My wife started Betty the Volvo after work, got out to clean off all the snow, and it locked on her! No keys, no phone, in a snowstorm. Samaritans let her use their phone. She called me, I dug out a car, took the extra key down, and it unlocked fine with no alarm going off.

Did she hit the button on the fob with fat gloves? If so, why didn't it unlock when she opened the door? Is there a time limit built in? (I don't think so, I've started it and let it run in sub-zero for quite a while while I shovel). Did some water get in somewhere it shouldn't have?

Sidenote - With Blizzak snows, this car just digs in deep snow and goes wherever you want it to go! And stops on ice.

That ferry ride looks like fun besides the view. Only time ever took a large boat ride was in 84. First time in China. Overnight and was much slower back then and super cold.

Not today, but I welded a radiator cage using 14 GA 304 stainless steel sheets that goes under the bumper and covers everything from the on/off-road oddities. I gave it a few blows with the sledge hammer to test my crappy welds, it didn't fall apart immediately. But I was always curious how sturdy this piece of engineering is ;) So, a month ago I was drinking beer, beer and more beer, and decided to shoot it with a bolt from my 370 FPS crossbow, and it didn't penetrate.

I have a video of the process, but too shy to post it here (not enough beer consumed).

You go up top on the ferry and the view of along Island Sound is beautiful.

The trip is $12 passenger/$60 car , about 15 miles and takes 75 minutes. The alternate route is to go through NYC , 90 miles of heavy urban traffic (1-4 hours) and $30 in tolls. It’s a no brainer since I can walk from ferry to house in Port Jefferson.
