I was driving home from work and first heard a pop sound. Noticed I was slowing down and also noticed my cruise control was not working. And when I would come to a complete stop and go from a stop when I would push on the gas it was very slow at acceleration and the fastest I could go was 40 mph.
Update drove it around today around the block a few times and it shifted into all the gears. Does anyone think I should do a transmission flush?

No lights or messages in the dash? Most likely in Limp Mode? Though yours maybe experiencing a different problem but it sounds like it went to Limp Mode. My S80 T6 transmission has been slipping so I can only drive it in manual mode. Have learned to feather the accelerator so won't start the slipping or else it goes to Limp Mode / stuck in 3rd gear. Still driveable but engine rev working after 55 mph and from a stop it's also a bit slow. Had to reset it on the fly one day as it was a two lane 60mph back road with stop and go. Hills could easily cause the trans to slip.
Buy any mini OBDII dongle like this one and download the free Car Scanner app. Checked for codes asap then check the condition of the trans fluid besides level. Best free OBDII software used thus far. Beats others by a mile and ad is not noticeable at the bottom. The last photo is from the Torque Lite app. Was useful but now...

How many miles on transmission? How many miles since last change or flush?Calebh wrote: ↑07 Jan 2022, 19:37 I was driving home from work and first heard a pop sound. If regularly serviced and not black or burnt (still reddish) I would go for a cooler return line flush. If black or burnt I'd drain and fill to prevent the detergent in new fluid from shocking any chunks loose and clogging valves in the transmission.
I have rolled the dice on an unknown service history 150k mile 05 S40 and 150k 02 S60 with a return line flush (before I knew better). Both shifted a bit funky afterward but eventually settled down and shifted well. After that I'll stick to a series of drain and fills to be on the safe side.

Caleb, this could be a lot of different things. Let’s start off with which engine is in your car. Do you know if it’s turbocharged or N/A (naturally aspirated aka non-turbo)? If you don’t, an easy way to tell is if there’s a black pipe about 2 1/2 inches in diameter running over the top of your motor… if present, your car most likely has the 2.5 liter turbo engine.
If this is your engine, there is a chance that this pipe (known as the OTE (over the engine) or Charged Air Pipe may have come disconnected. Check both ends of the pipe to see if the rubber hoses are still worm-clamped securely, and check both ends of each rubber hose to verify they are secured. One hose should be secured behind the engine connecting the OTE pipe to the the turbo, the other rubber hose attaches the OTE pipe to the intercooler up front.
Alternatively, there is another pipe that mounts to the underside of the intake manifold that can come off. In either of these situations I would expect you to notice a change in the way the engine sounds and also a dramatic loss in power.

Follow Pete's recommendation then check your transmission fluid while you are at it.
