I don't know what year Volvo went to this setup in the 240s, but both my 1991 and 1993 have onboard amplifiers for the sound system (kinda cheesy eh??)
Anyway, you have to bypass the dumb things in order to hook a normal stereo up to them.
You need to know what wires go where as far as the ford radio is concerned. (power, memory, illumination, ground, and the associated 8 speaker wires for the four channels.) With the cheap price of mp3 playing CD headunits, may I ask why you're bothering trying to put a Ford stereo into a Volvo?
I just got an Alpine stereo from Crutchfield and they sent me two big wiring harnesses for the Volvo 240 cars that hook into the factory wiring and utilize the aforementioned amplifiers. Lucikily in my case, I removed a Kenwood tape deck that had been professionally installed, so I just used the existing wires they were using.
In an older 240, it's pretty easy to hook up a stereo. In a newer 240, you have those stupid onboard amplifiers between you and the speakers unless you physically cut and splice in new wiring.
