1990 240DL Starting Issues (OBD Codes Inside)

Post by AluminumFalcon »

Hey everybody!
I've had problems starting my 1990 240DL for the past 3 months now. It starts fine with no issue 70% of the time, but the other 30% it cranks and cranks and won't start. If I leave it for anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour it'll usually start up fine. I took to the OBD to get codes and I received the following:

212 (O2 Sensor)
121 (MAF)
232 (Lambda Adjustment)

I don't know where to start on fixing this and I've recently moved to a new town and don't know a Volvo-friendly mechanic. Any advice?

Fuel Pressure and Ignition Firing would be my concern...as was said years ago does it have spark, and does it have fuel.

Fuel-Pump/Ignition Relay could be the issue.

It does have spark but I'm not sure how to test if fuel is getting through the lines

Chances are its this: Volvo 3523608

Might try this next time it acts up: 1985-93 240, jump fuse circuit #4 to #6.

If the main fuel pump doesn't begin running when jumped (you should definitely hear it humming), you either have a faulty fuel pump or faulty wiring to the pump (bad wiring is fairly common under an old 240, near the pump)
