Just bought a 2002 s40 from a dealer and am having problems with mould /mildew smell, although the dealer has changed filters and replaced an A/C part. Slight improvement since but remains bothersome - any similar experiences?

I'd get a Haynes or Chiltons manual for it and find out where the air induction is (usually at the base of the windshield).

Then get some disinfectant like Lysol and spray it in there. See if that helps. I'd also run it hot every time you drive (windows open if necessary) to help combat any mildew living there, in the hopes that hot dry air would kill the milldew.

Also check the AC drain tube to make sure that it is not blocked. I had this problem with the mildew smell and used a piece of weed-eater line to snake out the grunge. I then followed it up with lysol. I do the lysol treatment every fall as this is when I see it most.
