Here's a trick I use to get 10% off dealership parts. Find it on usparts.volvocars.com, switch to ordering from your local dealership (if available), check if the price is 10% lower, order it for pickup from the dealer. It's a great way to get obscure parts not available at major retailers.

What do they do with all the used parts and consumables they get back? Oil... I'd imagine they recycle it. I hope. Worn metal parts? What happens to those? What happens to say, wiper blades?
Don't get me wrong, I use FCP for parts like wipers and filters, but I'm curious how this works on a macro scale.

Let’s see. Suppose market price on a brake rotor is $40
You buy a rotor at $40, they make $10 on it.
If you exercise your LRP, also called FreeCP here, they have lost $20
But if they rock the volume , my guess is they can pinch another $5 on the wholesale price, and ask us for $5 more on the retail end. Now the loss is down to $5
But, not every rotor comes back. If the break even return rate here would be calculated by each non returned rotor has pays for a returned rotor roughly. I’ll guess that LRP returns are well under 50%
I’m not sure the exact number is public but FCP processes N000 orders per day, 5> N>1

Yea I've questioned it myself but they must be backing on the majority of people not returning tons of little parts or the cars get sold/scrapped before they need replacement and it's invalid at that point. Im going to ride that FCP train as far as it will take me. I now have 2 cars getting the returned oil once a year so my oil changes end up being the cost of shipping. It's way cheaper in the end than buying local. Just wish I lived further north or FCP was further south. It actually encourages me to spend extra on blue box items so I get the same quality if I have to return in the future.

I'm sure they have some sort of recycling program. Stuff like brake rotors will get a small kickback in scrap value (albeit not much compared to the price of a rotor). Same goes for suspension components, etc. I'm sure there is SOME kind of break they get for that.
Overall, I think most of it is just banking on most people not wanting to bother with returning stuff. And even someone like me, who doesn't like to leave any unclaimed cash kicking around, isn't going to bother on a lot of small things like drain plug washers, for example. I have returned them, but usually don't bother.

Anneal your copper washers to make them soft and deformable again by heating to red with a gas torch.
