Bumping old thread. I’m guessing the rubbery coating is a conformal coating and is removed either mechanically or by softening with heat. I seem to recall solvents are avoided

you can remove it manually where you need to solder.
After my personal saga of soldering the module 3 times over a period of 5 years (worked for 2 years between the 1st and second solder job and then came on and off again) I had MattyMoo fix one for me and I gotta say I should have done that as sion as the module went bad, especially the second time around.
The benefit of getting a repaired unit is that at least you can cross off the module as possible culprit if the ABS light stays on. In my case I was really starting to suspect something different because resoldering brought temporary improvements, but then the abs light came back.

I recently went thru this experience again too, and had MattyMoo repair my once-upon-a-time repaired ABS module. He did a great job, the ABS system is working fine again -- problem solved.

How did you convince him to work on your already-opened module ? He seems quite blunt on his website about not dealing with previously repaired units.

I don't mind repairing them if they're sent in to be repaired, I just don't want them back as cores if an exchange module is sent out. It isn't necessarily anything cut open, all of the ramac and programma cores I get in had previously been cut open but it's clean and you can't tell.
