Do I need to fill VVT solenoid with oil? Topic is solved

I took the vvt unit off when I was replacing the head gasket. I am not putting it back together. Do I need to fill the holes that are on the cam cover and under where the vvt solenoid goes with oil, or not?

Once you have the VVT solenoid torqued back on (w/new gasket that has screen) 1. turn the engine over manually (with oil in crankcase) to circulate oil, or 2. before firing, you can crank the engine (using the starter) with the ignition coils disconnected or fuse removed. That’ll get oil up there.

Don't need that.

I did what Pete recommends: after the engine rebuild I cranked it a few times with the fuel pump fuse removed.

Surely oil drains out of the VVT, which is on top of the engine, whenever the engine is turned off. So first install of a dry solenoid would not be hugely different from any daily start up.

But if you can identify the fuse, it seems simple to do - once. I have both intake and exhaust VVT solenoids to do myself but no P0127 at the moment, so no rush for me.
