Mystery Hose Clamp

Post by 02V70 »

I am doing a head gasket job, and I am now putting the intake manifold on. How many hose clams connect
This:

to this?

Past me put a hose clamp on both the intake manifold and the pipe. If its just one that connects them like I thought, then I probably thought the hose clap that I put on the intake manifold when I stored it was the one that I left on the pipe.

Does anyone know what it could be for?
Here is a photo of it with a razor blade for scale.

Its not the one for the air box or that long pipe that goes into the turbo.

It is also entirely possible that the hose clamp was a random one lying around that I thought went in the volvo.

The first pic is the correct one. I flip mine so you can reach the 7mm screws from the vantage point of the starter/air box.

Make sure you shove that plastic pipe up onto the TB (ETM) real good.

That’s not a Volvo clamp. Use the right ones on turbo induction because these are under a lot of pressure. When they pop off , it’s a bad day.

Here’s the P80 version from the Volvo parts web store

So do they have to be tightened more than the others?

On a high pressure turbo, the air tubes need to have clamps tight. I use a 1/4 inch ratchet with socket instead of a screwdriver.
If not tight, they can blow off when the turbo pressure rises. Then the car dies or goes into limp mode without any power.

The Volvo ones have that funny outside ring that firm up onto the inner band when correctly tightened

I don’t think there is a torque spec for those in VIDA but we will check. Use a socket, 7mm, not a screwdriver , so you can feel them firm up.
