S60 2002 Emission service required message and Gearbox

A "Emission service required "messager displayed and my engine light went on. We reset the light and message and for a few months it was fine but returned. Also when this message returned again the gearbox changes became different as in it would not geardown correctly and rev high also when accelarating the changes up to a higher gear to soon. Can anyone advise of what this may be?

Read the trouble codes and list them here...this will tell us more specifically what the problem is.
