Finally have time to get this done - I called Volvo to order the parts, and they told me the two rear bushings are different (illustration #'s 25 for right rear and 26 for left rear), plus what looks to be some sort of conical washer just for the right side. No mention of an O ring, but FCP shows a plastic washer
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... o-31329447 - which looks like what Volvo shows in their parts illustration.
And FCP shows only one type of bushing...
Do I need to replace the metal subframe retaining washers?
While I'm not doubting the advice here, I want to get the right parts// I was going to order from FCP, BTW.

I'm not sure what that white plastic washer would be for, The 2003 XC's didn't use that, I'll try to find it in the Volvo parts online though, you should get those if your year specifies that. The big washers come with the new bolts you will want to purchase for the job, they are about 8 bucks each.
Just to be clear......you are talking about replacing the subframe bushings (4) on the front subframe which cradles the engine right? Yes, the original driver's rear bushing that you remove will have an oblong hole as opposed to a round one, I'd be surprised if you can get an OEM replacement for that bushing, I have read on many forums that that oblong bushing is not actually available but I could be wrong. Standby...... I'm going to look into that part on the Volvo fiche.

OK, so on the 2001 V-70 microfiche it shows that plastic washer kit of 4 part number 31329447, I would get that. Items 25 and 26 reference the same part number 3507923 of which you need 4 of. Item 29 is the large washer, you can reuse your old ones. Item 30 is the engine cradle bolt which comes with the washer, get 4 of these. Strangely the diagram doesn't show the 2 front subframe bushings but I can assure you they are the same as the others, 3507923. Volvo does not show a separate part number for the originally installed oblong left rear subframe bushing that came with your car new.

Somewhere on a Volvo engineering drawing written is very small Swedish is likely a brief note explaining poorly why some engineer or technician felt he could justify a change order and change the washer. Maybe.

Yeah, that white plastic thing goes between the subframe bushing and the large washer, probably to prevent friction and squeaking. Not a bad idea really.

Much thanks for the explanation and breakdown. Especially that white plastic part. I couldn't understand why the illustration showed 2 numbers for the rear bushings, either, when they referenced the same part. I know the bushings have to be turned a certain way when installing, so maybe that could have something to do with it.. I need to check with Euro to see if the bolt comes with the metal washer. Is there a better source? I am planning on ordered the Lefendorfer (sp?) Bushing.

The bolt does come with the washer, in fact it cannot be removed from the washer. For the extra 8 bucks each purchase the Volvo brand bushings.
