Installing USB option on 2012 V70 D3

I bought what has to be the most basic spec 2012 V70 D3 in the world, but with just 55k on the clock, a cambelt change and new battery thrown into the deal, it seemed a good deal. What I didn't check for was a USB socket for music that I can control at the head unit.
I have been told that it can be done, and I have done a bit of searching without success on how it is done, what I need, is it plug and play etc. I know my way around a wiring diagram, I am of an age when you repaired broken TV's , not just throw stuff away.

Suggestions and answers please, all gratefully received

GROM makes plug on kits for accessing audio with usb or Bluetooth. They are a bit dear, 150 GBP or so, but they work well and are well documented.

I looked at GROM and they seem to stop at 2007MY for the V70. It would though be worth sending off an e-mail

I can get the actual wiring harness bit I need but, it will require a software update, which is where I am a little stumped, I have VIDA and i think I also have VDASH, but that's my limit of knowledge. What I am sure of is that it is not just a toggle switch in VIDA. The software number is 31339123. ermm... help! (OK I'm not sure about that software number, VIDA is being vague, or my brain is feeling foggy)
