The rarest 850 around: 1992 Volvo 850 T5 Racing

Post by matthew1 »

The identity of this "semi-functional" race car appears to be the lowest known chassis number on a rolling 850 currently. Built with many exclusive parts from Volvo's development department and engine laboratory, this car is almost royal extracted.
"The car bears traces of a car that ran through Mantorp Park for many years." Used, yes, but also well built from the scratch and well maintained during use. "

This 850 will be auctioned off very soon.

Description
The car was built in 1995 by Johnny Haraldsson at Sportpromotion in Halmstad from an early empty hand-welded pre-series body. Volvo also provided three T5R prototype / test cars as donor cars. Lightweight plate in front fenders, similar to the Super Touring cars. The engine was delivered from Volvo's engine test lab. The specification of the machine is not completely known, but sharper cam angles are noticeable in the engine aisle and the control box was factory programmed. It has an adjustable wastegate valve and is delivered with a boost pressure of 1.2 bar, the engine then produces just over 300 hp. The aluminum support arms were found on the early performance versions. Another nice curiosity is that there is a T-Yellow bumper on, the yellow arrow for the rescue loop uses the underlying color. The car was painted in original T5R red one year before the introduction of the version that was popularly called T-Red.
On a few different arranged occasions, the car has also been steered by HM King Carl XIV Gustav when our happy monarch has been offered to feel different kinds of carriage material in vacant and controlled forms.

Condition assessment
Technical condition:
An engine with specifications that is more than 25 years old, and which offers the character, driving experience and technology of the time. A boost pressure higher than 1.2 bar gives the engine nervous traction and the current 1.4 bar will be adjusted before delivery. Today, Volvo's supercharged five can be compared as a source of efficient driving pleasure, as tuned B18, B21 and B23 have previously been for young enthusiasts over the years. This machine is also an interesting historical significance with Volvo's own involvement in the recipe.

Condition interior:
Older Momo racing chairs, not approved for racing today, but fully functional for bandages and similar exercises. The belt attachment is recommended to be fixed to current findings and rules, ie a brace in the cage arch at shoulder / neck height behind the chairs. On the driver's side, there is also a complete six-point belt. The electric lifts are ingeniously left and are operated from an original panel inside the glovebox door. Otherwise, it is a stripped-down, traveling interior that should be.

Condition exterior:
Traces and wear from the years on the track. Nice that the red T5R paint has been left intact. The wheels are the early T5R wheels with titanium, they seem to be in neat condition, although of course there are traces of use on them as well. The R-tires are to be regarded as transport tires, there is not much grip left in them, but they can of course go on if you really want to, as the film clip also shows.

Condition complete:
Nice track car with a nice factory history and also with a civil latent identity. The royal provenance adds an extra point for many, and the car probably also has more famous drivers on its conscience. After all, it has served during many events at Mantorp Park during its active years.

I love the first year big headlights. They're so cool.

It's interesting how well the big headlights blend with the round 94 up bumpers. The early year models (I think 2 years in Europe) always looked outdated to me, but as we can see here it's not the headlights but the bumpers that make the huge difference. Great car, btw.
