Hello there,
I ran into a strange problem today.
I had to take my car to a garage because it was stalling (1998 v70) and they put in a new battery they said it was bad.
I was tired out so i wasnt thinking that the battery i ahd in there was only 6 months old. So they put in the new battery i will be aboue 220 dollars (USD). This means if i take the old battery back to the other garage i will get a BRAND NEW battery for free.
Since i wont be needing this battery i thought i would offer it for sale to anyone who wants it.
I dont usually sell anything but it would be a waste of about 180 dollars if i dont do something with the battery, and i dont want it hanging around for 3 years where i'd have to keep it maintained.
So if anyone wants to buy it make me an offer send via PM if you like.
The battery originally had a 5 year warrentee but it could have been 3 years ill have to look that up. But it would be reduced by 6 months i think that is the sway they work it. However, it will be an acual brand new battery never used in a car before.
Oh it is an Interstate battery number MTP-48/H6 it's a big battery and made for an older car so charges properly.
I'm just looking to recap some of the cost of the new battery since i just bought one 6 months ago also for $220 USD.
Unfortunately the only way you can get it is to come here and pick it up unless yo live close by where i can bring it over.
As i said i never sell anything but it would be a waste not to pass it on to someone in need. I did sell a special kind of IC chip long ago that i programmed myself to work as a battery tester/charger for Li-ion and alkaline batteries, bu tthat was many years ato i found the market just wasnt ready for that at the time.
If no one wants it maybe someone can suggest what else i can do with it i hate o let a brand new battery go without use. The garage where i got it will replace it all i have to do is take the old one back.
Thanks and take care,
Al

Offering a brand new battery for 1998 v70 or similar Volvo
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.

Problem with batteries in Canada is the warranty only stands for the original purchaser. I found out the hard way when a battery in a car I bought was only 6 months old and it failed with a bad cell. Took it back to the supplier with the receipt the owner left in the car but they would no honor the warranty. Same happens with Xemodex or most other parts warranties. So anyone purchasing it may not have a warranty claim.

Hi,
Oh ok, then that may be the case here too. That means that there may not be a warranty at all then.
So i guess the 'sale' is off
The best i can do then is keep it for a backup and keep it maintained.
Thanks for the info.

It may or may not be the same in the US. Maybe worth a question to the supplier? US rules on some things are a lot more customer friendly than Canada. Our country is run on 'weasel laws'. Heck, we don't even get the same new car warranties as the US or Europe.

Yes worth asking about. But you gave me an idea. If i was able to sell it to someone nearby they could bring it to me and i could turn it in myself. That might be a bit of a hassle though for both me and the buyer so maybe i'll just keep it or think of something else.scot850 wrote: ↑21 May 2022, 19:45 It may or may not be the same in the US. Too bad too it's a really nice battery full size and it will be brandy new
I think they go for $192 now but that could vary.
