Winter/Wet driving mode button not working

Post by gnalan »

Not sure why, but the "W" button no longer works. It used to work before, when I tried it on a really rainy day to see what it did, if anything, to help limit wheel spin. Now I can press it as much as I want, sitting still in Drive, and it doesn't do anything. No more "W" showing up where it shows "D" like it did before.

I don't use it, but I was wondering if there was any other problem that I should be concerned about since it doesn't work now. Transmission problems, STC, ABS, or anything else that may be effecting the wet driving mode and keeping it from working?

It gets sticky soda and stuff in it, sometimes, then the button won’t switch. I would Leavitt alone for fear of being stuck In W

I wish we could get W back right now.

What's the best way to fix the button to get it working again?

The first thing I would do is disconnect it and see if it functions as a switch I think it is a simple switch thst toggles pins on the TCU…

On the 1999 itsimply grounds pins.

Not yet, but it on my list of things to do this weekend. I just got a set of new coils to replace the factory original coils. Well 3 factory originals, 1 black no name coil and 1 gray no name coil. I just put new plugs in a week ago, I think, Beru originals, to try and fix my stumbling/misfiring problems I was having. Still have a #5 misfire, so hopefully the new coils fix it.

Is there something wrong with the SIPS you sent me? That's the only part I haven't had a chance to install yet. I need to get it swapped so I can make an appt with Volvo to replace my steering wheel airbag under the recall. I don't think they'll touch it with an airbag that doesn't work, and the SRS light on, without charging me to fix it first.

That visor you sent me has really worked great. I should've had you grab the pair since the driver's side and passenger side are different now. The newer style are a lot nicer, too.

No, nothing wrong with it. Lol It’s just I had a chance to play around with a drivers seat in the junk yard and I think I know how you can get your leather seat back cover off. There are two buttons hidden in the back of the seat that line up with the two headrest rods. Feel around for them, push in and pull the head rest up and out. Undo the leather back from where it attaches to the frame at the bottom and I believe it will slide up and off of the frame/padding. Then you can mount your SIPS.

I've tried to take off the headrest that way and it won't come off. I'm going to just pull the leather up to the top until I can get to the SIPS, replace it, then pull the leather back down and reattach it with new hogrings.
