Heater Controls Lights, 2001 S40
Heater Controls Lights, 2001 S40
What's the procedure to replace a light bulb that's out behind one of the three heater control knobs (which illuminates a knob's position) in a 2001 Volvo S40? The knob pulls off, but I don't know what to do next to get behind it to reach the light bulb, where ever it is. Mileage is about 65,000 (because you asked in Read Me First). Location is California. Thanks.

Welcome to MVS.
First and foremost, disconnect your battery for at least 20 minutes before you start to keep from setting a SRS (air bag) light...only the dealer can turn this off.
You'll have to pull your radio out and out of the way and then the 2 screws for your side panels to get them off and then the radio holding bracket. You'll also need to use a bone tool or blunt knife (a butter knife works well with some duct tape around it to keep from scratching your panels) to pull the front panel of your climate control out (after you pull the knobs off). Once you get this far you'll need to twist your climate control module downward and out. Once it's near out, there are some connectors to disconnect from the rear side and then you'll have to open it up to replace the light bulbs.
I am posting after reading this from VADIS. I have no idea what kind of bulbs, etc. are in there...maybe you're lucky and have the same kind as 850 and S/V70's...so do a search here on the bulbs in the repair database section. I hope it goes well if you're going to try this yourself. Please post back how it went.
