2005 Volvo XC70 no turn signal’s or light switch controls

Post by Johnthevolvoking82 »

Hi guys I need some help I just bought this wagon car runs great previous owner told me that he just had the heater core replaced and then the turn signals were not working he replaced the turn signal stalk still nothing so I towed the car home and started looking for problems
I remove the stock and looked for bad connection also letting you know that the wipers only work on one speed so when I remove the connector to the turn signal stalk the wipers come on by them self and would not shut off until I replaced the connector to the turn signal stalk and now the light switch does not work when I try to put on or turn off the lights the lights are stuck on The dimmer wheel not responding either and now none of the steering wheel buttons work and the cluster and radio are dim I would appreciate some help

You need to get the wiring diagram from VIDA and trace voltages to troubleshoot stuff. They are not public domain. Vida is a free download onto a win computer

These are not hot…load…ground wired vehicles. Most everything in the P2 platform is CANBUS module controlled, steering angle, lights, wiper, seats.

Your negative battery terminal needs to be disconnected when you are messing with thus. If you are disconnecting stuff live, you will definitely screw up the CANBUS and worst case fry a module

Please follow MVS guides on sentences , punctuation, paragraph breaks , and syntax.

Couple things... Volvo lights are always on- you can't turn them off. It is a Volvo safety thing. If you want to use the high beams, then you need to turn the headlight switch on. I'm surprised your rocker switch did not trigger a "lamp out" warning.

Next, if the turn signals stopped working after he had the heater core replaced than possibly a connector did not get plugged back in somewhere in the dash. You have to dig around in there. Otherwise you will need some expert diagnosis, like abscate said- these cars are multiplexed and all the modules communicate with each other with high and low speed CAN.

Last, the low wiper position is automatic wipers. They only come on when it's raining. There is a raindrop sensor near the rear view mirror on the inside of the windshield. If you are having a issue and want the wipers to not be automatic, you can unplug the raindrop sensor and the low wiper position will work as normal.

Hope that helps a little.

I had the same problem with my 2005 s60. I disconnected the side steering wheel controls. Which for me were cruise control and the volume buttons. The lights worked again.
I can live without cruise control just fine.

I only have a wiring diagram for a 2002 model year but based on what's common with the steering wheel module and light switch module there is a fuse that powers both modules, for the 2002 it's the 11C/23 fuse in the passenger compartment. With your 2005 I would see if there is a similar fuse that powers both modules and check that fuse.
