1995 960 sw 2.9 idler pully on timing belt came a part.

Veh. would not idle and ran with dead miss. I pulled it a part and it looked to have jump time a little I replaced my parts and have been trying to set time with marks it starts but sound out of time pops .I try move cams around and it is clouse but not there .is there a good way to find T.D.C with out pulling v,c to see if valves are cloused ? And the mark on crank at T.D.C the piston is not all the way up ? when I put it at top the valve on I think it is exuhst valve side hit with cam marks lined up .I need help I have been messing with this for 2 days and have not hit the right spot yet.
