Asbestos was rampant in composites in the 50s and 60s, got phased out in the 70s. If you are replacing it, try to remove in pieces without cutting. Short of micoscrope testing, there isn’t an easy way like there is with lead.

I remember seeing a magazine ad from the 1950's (?) for asbestos reinforced dish towels.

As long as it's not airborne your all good. It's the dry dust that gets into your lungs that causes problems.
I've been on jobs where we have had to remove asbestos laced construction materials, and the OSHA approved method was to wet everything down so dust was eliminated.
