Cooled down vehicle parked on level ground with a wheel chocked for safety, reach up under the vehicle and try to rotate the driveline. If it rotates to any degree, your angle gear is stripped. If that's the case, I'll send you a link so you know what's next (assuming you want to keep your AWD). Sometimes the bevel and sleeve are not stripped enough to do the manual validation, then it's all four wheels up in the air and a running vehicle to check.

That’s a p3 chassis isn’t it? Is that the same generation Haldex?

Not sure who that question's addressed to, bevel gear is a bevel gear and if it's shot it's shot. If it is, can see here- https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/2008 ... ar.309585/

Another link on Haldex versions and the XC90, little dated- https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/xc90 ... me.502434/

At some point I'll crawl up under both mine and get some photos of what they look like. Pretty sure they're Haldex Gen3.

I brought up the mechanical check as I purchased a 2008 V8 Sport in 2015 and by 2016 I had already stripped out the angle gear. Check AOC pump and DEM for sure but if you can turn the driveline with your hands, you need to go no further.

Were it not a V8, I would not have suggested trying this test first. Xemodex has a decent troubleshooting flow for the back if the problem not mechanical and not code specific- https://xemodex.com/us/dem-diagnostic-f ... xc70-xc90/

I can't turn it by hand with all 4 wheels on the ground.
I just haven't been able to get it lifted off the ground, I know someone at shop who will lift it for me. I had 4 Jack stands but can't find 2 of them...we moved into the new house over 5 years ago and I still can't find tools. I literally work 7 days a week and haven't had a real day off in years but I gotta get this taken care of this. I really dont want to do any more damage so we haven't really been driving her.

I really like that flow chart from Xemodex, real easy to follow. What do mean by checking the AOC Pump? Try jumping it with a power probe? Unfortunately the VIDA program I purchased on Ebay doesn't work, the DICE works. I think VIDA would help with this issue.
How would you go about checking the DEM?
