2001 V70 T5 Horn & Wiper Problem

Post by gtopaul »

I just picked up this nice green V70 T5 last week (85k). I knew it had a few little problems but I've replaced the ABS module, new 235/45/17 tires, new upper engine mount, and an impossible to get at rear tail light bulb. I have one problem I've been unable to fix, a blown horn fuse. It goes about three days before blowing again even if the horn hasn't been used. Another strange trait is the windshield wipers will creep up from their 'park' position after the car has been off and locked a few hours. This doesn't seem to happen until I replace the horn fuse. Ideas?

Thanks.

Paul

My thoughts are that somehow your horn and wiper wires are shorting each other...therefore the over-load and fuse going as well as the blades creeping up on your windshield. Hopefully others will respond with something more definite.

Took the car into the local Volvo dealer and he fixed the wiper problem with a reprogram and wiper relay. Turns out the blown horn fuse was because the drivers side horn was bad. Once they replaced that with a new horn it now beeps whenever it feels like it, in the middle of the night, during the day, not for a few days then again whenever it wants to. I took the car back into the shop and they tried a number of things to fix the horns intemittent beeping. They had it two weeks and when I got it home it started to do it again. I unplugged the new horn to see if that would change anything. It went three days before it started blowing the horn again this evening. I removed the fuse once again so as to not wake the neighbors tonight and will unplug the remaining horn tomorrow to see what that does. I know the car has another horn for the alarm under the right front fender liner and I want to make sure that's not what's beeping. It never does it while I'm looking at it. Pretty frustrating.
