Volvo's horrible suspension designs

Why does Volvo design their suspension the way they do? Look at the LCAs on the S60. The front bushing is setup to move up and down in a nice arc, and then they bind it up with the rear bushing that's designed to pivot the arm front to rear (which it doesn't need to do). It's no wonder why all the bushings fail. Why not design the rear bushing the same way as the front bushing so that there's no binding, and the LCA can actually move in an up and down arc?

Kind of explains why the cheap ones fail. Lots of pressure and load on those bushings. As the rubber ages easy to start breaking down.
