Hey all, have a few questions regarding my Volvo. I’ve been experiencing rough idle at startup, lack of power, I can hear my turbo suck air, and codes p0420 and p0134 showed up. The car runs fine after it warms up but is sluggish still. Yesterday I decided to clean my MAF, and it seemed to be in good condition even before cleaning. I then went to start up my car after and it was idling very rough for 10-30 seconds before stalling out. I went back under the hood and discovered my turbo inlet pipe sheared off at the clamp around the turbo. Already ordered the IPD silicone replacement. Am I correct in my assumption that this would have caused my code and drivability issues, and would also remedy them? I should also note that the cat and 02 sensor are not even 6 months old, and spark plugs even newer.

Yep, that sucking sound was your clue to the flex coupler pipe. You lose boost on the way to the intercooler.

Aren’t those codes unrelated to a huge vacuum leak though? Both of them infer to cat inefficiency? Someone smarter than me (jonesg i’m looking at you) please correct me.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

jonesg is right, on the pressure side it will barely run. I split an intercooler case once. But if Madtown is right that it was the inlet side of the turbo, then maybe his MAF signal is all wrong and messing with the computer?

Thanks for the info guys, will definitely give an update once the replacement arrives. From what I’ve read, apparently these cars run like crap if there’s any sort of vacuum leak. I’ll be going through the rest of the vacuum lines as welk

I bought a pack of bright colored vac lines from ipd and replaced them all. That way it's easier to trace them to the correct spot, and they don't disappear in the greasy blackness behind the motor.

An Intake pressure loss richens the fuel air ratio, o2 sensor detects excess fuel passing through the system....it doesn't know why.
Fix the source of the problem and other symptoms often go away or reveal the source was just another symptom, such as a wastegate problem. I installed a cheap turbo gauge just to keep an eye on the system and swapped out the associated plumbing with iPD colored hoses for easier tracing.
