timing belt tensioner leak

Post by brownrock »

I am worried that the oil in my NEW Aisin hydraulic timing belt tensioner has leaked out and the tensioner is now empty of oil.

What got me to this troubling thought is this.

A mystery leak forced me to uninstall and reinstall my new tensioner THREE times.

Each time I re-compressed it slowly and carefully.

The first time I did so some oil leaked out of the bottom of the tensioner.
The following times NO leakage.

After the most re-install I found some drops of what looks like motor oil on the ground directly below the tensioner (several days in a row). Tensioner oil as I recall looks just like motor oil.

Last 2 days NO more drops of oil on the ground. The source of the leak may be at an end?

Now I'm wondering whether it is possible that the tensioner oil seal FAILED and the oil inside the unit has completely leaked out leaving it empty (which might explain why there are no more drops of oil on the ground).

Would like to hear your thoughts / experiences in this matter.

Thanks and regards to all.
