I own a 1999 v70 GLT pretty much stock.
I have the chance to get a complete 2006 s60R with a bad manual transmission for cheap cheap. from my understanding this is a bt5254t4 engine of the RN engine family.
From what I can gather my 99 v70 is the first of the rn engine family, would this make the swap a simple drop in, motor mounts should line up. But what about engine wiring or the fact id taking an engine that was mated to a manual (awd i assume) to auto FWD?
Being different chassis I dont think i would be able to use any of the AWD components, and being a FWD transmission I dont think i would be able to put my auto tranny into the S60.
Any info would be great i've seen some on swapping an RN engine into a pre-RN chassis but I dont think this would apply to my situation.

That 2006 might be dual VVT and you don’t have an intake VVT drive on your 1999

Sounds like a royal pita. Go to the bone yard and get an older motor fitting your car and just drop it in. I think price for a complete engine is like $400-$500.

That would get you into swapping to the DIM and immobilized and probably more rabbit holes
ECU are pinned to VIN from 1999 on

While both cars are controlled by ME7 engine management, the later ECU would not be plug-and-play in your car. It would require a custom tune to make things work.
As mentioned, the P2R motor has dual VVT, while your '99 P80 turbo had single (EX). The control routine for them is different.
Also, while on the single VVT engines, things will run correctly with the VVT locked out, the cam timing events on the dual R motors is completely different and they do not run properly with the VVT disabled. (Unless you re-clock the cams)
That all said the motor would bolt into your car, using your existing mounts, but the bulk of the work would be in trying to get it wired to run.
The AWD stuff is worthless for you, as is much of the rest of the car.
It sounds like your car is still running, but you're wanting more power?

Exactly my thoughts on the awd components, my assumption on wiring was if I took the ecu, wiring and ignition system from the p2 then I would be good to go.
So my other option would be to take the auto transmission from my p80 and put it into the p2r which I assume is a no go due to the awd and control modules

if this becomes a reality I surely will. I just want to have a better understanding of the wiring and adaptation to have the engine run well in the new chassis.
ARD makes it seem like i just need to block off the second VVT sensor and im good to go, im not sold on it being that easy yet though.
The old ecu would likely run the new engine, but injector duty cycle probably would need scaling as they will be bigger at the least.
Im looking at worst case scenario using the larger turbo off the p2R chassis on my p80 car. people seem to say that an injector and turbo upgrade are easy power, although again I am skeptical that it as easy as just bolting parts on, i assume there would be tuning associated to receive any notable power gains
