He's getting quite good at it, my guess is it now takes about 30% of the time for the first round, but we should try not to rub it in.

In this section back in August there was a point raised about the use of anti-seize on lug bolts or not. I mentioned that I have used anti-seize on lugbolts/nuts for over 30 years with no issues so far! I also mentioned that I had extreme difficult getting the lugbolts off the V70 NA I work on from time to time.

I pulled some lugbolts for a spare set for our P2 XC70 and these is what they looked like from the winter salt and de-icer they use on the roads up here if you don't use anti-seize:

Now I will mention, it is a case of what works for you. In drier states or ones were rust is less of an issue this may not be needed.

And you reduce tightening torque from a dry spec when you lube, something like 30%.

Since my earlier observation about the correct answer to an ASE Certification test question has been turned into a referendum of sorts, here is a page from Tire Rack (regarding lug nuts and bolts) which echos the ASE course material:

"Torque specifications are for dry threads only. The fastener threads should be free of oil, dirt, grit, corrosion, etc. It is important NOT to lubricate hardware threads or seats."

I'm sure lubrication lug nuts is a widespread practice in some places. It is not the industry standard.

As Dr. Steve has so astutely observed, lubricating the threads of any fastener changes torque readings, and has an effect on clamping force.
I have no doubt that there are corrosion issues in certain places; people who dunk boat trailers in salt water would be a good example. Areas of the country using salt on roads in winter cause endless grief. The very specific point I made, in my instant case, was the goo slathered all over everything in the back of a recently acquired V70 - including the lug bolts, along with the bolts holding the calipers to the car - would earn a failing grade on the ASE test.
