Help! Ignition switch jammed?

Well, no dice folks.

The first part of the video was mostly accurate (my screws were different from what he said they'd be). I got the cover off and the ignition thingy off the tumbler, but that's where I hit a roadblock.

In the video he claimed you could just put the key in the tumbler and then use a screwdriver to turn the ignition thing. When I try that all that all I get is the info readout says "SRS-AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT" and nothing else happens. I can turn the thingy all the way and feel the resistance indicating I've hit the "start" position, but the car doesn't actually start. There's just nothing.

Deep in the comments someone mentions a xc70 that wont shift from park. You also need to bypass the gear shifting linkage too perhaps.

Does anyone have any info on how to go about doing that? Turing the ignition thingy with a screwdriver accomplishes nothing in that respect, it's still locked in park.

And before anyone asks, I triple-checked that nothing got accidentally unplugged and none of the connectors seem loose.

I posted the DIYs on how to remove the bottom rectangular plate.
Search forum for it.
Once the plate is removed, you should be able to turn the key.
This is the permanent fix.
I removed the bottom plate in ALL 3 of my Volvos at home.

Yes I know that. The key was in the lock, it makes no difference. I tried both keys to in case something happened to the transponder on one of them.

Once the plate is removed, you should be able to turn the key.

I'm not sure how that solves my problem, because supposedly I should be able to start the car by turning the ignition thingy directly with a screwdriver, but that obviously doesn't work.

That’s does work if they key is in and the immobilser reads it correctly.

I would NOT a drive around with a sticky key using the screwdriver turn very long. If the steering lock malfunctions hard, as you know it already is, it could lock on you when driving. That would be less than optimal.

I have no plans to ignore the problem and drive it like that years, I just want to be able to get the thing down to the shop so it can get fixed without paying through the nose for five guys and a tow truck to drag it out.

Does the rest of the dash light up? It sound like deeper electrical problems.

Yeah, I can turn the ignition thingy with the screwdriver to what would be position 2 and it acts accordingly: everything lights up, fan comes on, dash info readout complains about the airbag, etc. It's just that continuing to turn it to the start position has no effect.

Do you have a different Fob you can try? Sorry if this had been suggested already. I feel bad for your situation but also selfishly want to know the solution in case this happens to me!
