I'll buy him a cheap cigar..

I swapped the TCV (the one by the air box), and the other sensor - the one on that is clipped to the intercooler, and no change. But I found a really deteriorated short piece of hose - the one that goes to a hard plastic pipe from the sensor, and replaced that. Minor improvement but I can hear the turbo spool up, but not much, if any boost, in 4th and 5th gear around 70. So before I go any further, I'm going to replace the 3 turbo control hoses..

does anyone have a turbo control hose diagram, that includes the sensors? I think I may have missed a hose somewhere
