1998 V70/XC SUNROOF ISSUES

Post by JOHNSON79 »

I just bought a used (205k) 98 V70/XC. It's a great car, but the sunroof is
not working at all. When I push the button it makes a loud clicking sound
and won't operate, also the right side is sitting about 1/4" lower than the left. It worked for a day and only went back half way before making noise.
Is this an alignment issue?? I am planning on pulling it apart this weekend.
Any advice would help.

A cable or a track is broken.
PIA job to take it apart so you really should install new (plastic) tracks and cables as they do wear and do break

Thanks, I'll do that. I did get the glass to sit level and seal the opening, so it's cool for now. Where is a good source for those parts?

Anyhow, let's see, hmm.
Oh a VOLVO DEALER comes to mind, I mean where else would you get obscure parts rather easily?
One more thing, most of this is labor. If you're doing this yourself buy
ALL THE SUNROOF INTERNAL PARTS.
Don't just replace the one broken part, buy new tracks and cables because if one broke, the others are soon to follow. The tracks are only plastic, they break and the cables stretch and/or snap and you will see that you will not want to do this (PIA job) twice!

Thanks for the smart ass answer. I'll check them out, I can imagine they are going to be asking quite a few bucks for the parts. I may just end up disconnecting the motor and pretend it's not there.
