Excessive fuel consumption all of a sudden??

Excessive fuel consumption all of a sudden??

Post by mcu »

I have noticed that i am burning a lot more fuel lately.... doing 17-19L/100km, where i have been doing 10-13L/100kms for years now. What are some things that could cause such an increase? I thought possibly a bad wheel sensor as I replaced a ball joint recently or something with the computer, but I am at about 1/2 tank of full tank with only about 200kms done....so must be right.

Just a note that i just replaced the throttle body, have an engine light with p2401 and p2419 codes and recently changed front passenger wheel bearing.

Any suggestions on things to check??

If those codes reflect engine management problems you may be running in the static fuel map rather than than close loop. This will run rich with high fuel consumption to protect the engine from damage.

P2401 and P2419 are evap codes. Something in the EVAP purge/control system is the issue. But that shouldn't affect mileage at all

Figured I would add to this thread. Working though fixing some issues on a new to me 05 XC90 2.5T. One left to do is a check engine light with P2401 and P2419 codes.

Any suggestions on where to start? For $50 worth changing EVAP Canister Purge Valve? I've yet to check the wiring first as both codes are circuit low.

Just a followup on P2401 and P2419 codes, definitely check wiring. Made a seperate thread in XC90 area for my fix.
