Several people have reported the P0133 and P0140 when there is a leak. I'm going to guess that it is
the flex pipe since the cat was hanging when the exit pipe broke. Also, it has been slightly loud for many years.

cn90 fixed his, I think we're just going to try to patch ours:

From what I remember under the car it is not easy to get to.

Don’t forget the bear River converters. If you have enough pipe left to connect, you can band clamp a connection in 304 SS and get good 5 year life without welding

This is what I had in mind:

Another good one:
I see the clamp and tape that might do the trick:

Those are the 6-12 month fixes, not the 60 month fixes

A beer can and a couple of u-bolts would last longer than that tape.

Yes I thought of a soup can and clamps but it is probably in the flex pipe.

When I've looked up at it, the bolts at the manifold flange look like they're half
rusted away. I'm not sure if they are studs or bolts but it doesn't look like an
easy job to drop out the flex pipe and cat. Especially since we don't have a lift.
I'd expect that most shops won't touch this, and if one would it would be very expensive.

I'm thinking that steel epoxy putty with a can over it and clamps might be good enough for a while.

I looked at cn90's thread since I don't have the car here and see that the flex pipe is part of the
exhaust manifold. So we need an exhaust manifold?
FCP shows OEM as discontinued but has ProParts brand.
I don't think that I have the energy to do this, or the lift.
Does anyone know of a good independent Volvo mechanic in the CT area?

I do have one thought, the exit pipe broke on the cat and it was hanging from the flex pipe and
didn't fall off so, perhaps there's some hope for a patch.

We have to cut off the braided metal mesh to get to it?

@abscate
We put the car up on ramps yesterday, and the flex area seems much easier to get to
than the last time when I was further under the car.
We could not see any holes anywhere. It is not roaring loud.
We hooked the leaf blower up to the tail pipe, and first we felt around. I thought I could
feel a very slight leak around the flex pipe but not in a very specific area.
We sprayed around with soapy water and found hairline cracks right below the 4 pipes
to one. They are tiny but I could see bubbling.
We didn't spray right at the 4 to 1 point but I have a feeling that's where the leak is but
not sure at all.
Is this a common problem?

Anyone?

I’ve got two spare exhaust manifolds for NA cars upstate I’ll look for. Both came off 1998s
