So there are 3 different boot part numbers, with 2 different inner part numbers? Did you get a GKN part number for the EMPI equivalent or is it NLA now? I thought they were all the same or are the shafts a different diameter?

If I recall correctly you can fit a turbo axle on an NA but not the other way around. My memory may be wrong on that but don't think so.

Correct. On the -1998 NA m56 three different boot part numbers

They change in 1999

No GKN number yet, for the driver side inner.

If Empi is the only option, I would stock up on them or have a rebuilt axle available as you will likely be changing the boot every 6 months or so.........!

Managed to beat back winter to get the shafts installed and car back in her feet.

Got bitten by two things

An hour wasted looking for one of the three 36 mm sockets I own, unsuccessfully

The new circlip in the shaft bit me in the BEE hind by not popping in. I’ll have to redo that side

On the M56 at least , you could punch out a stuck axle from the other side

Fighting winter ……

Are you re-using the same axles, the ones with the new boots fitted, or are you using other axles? If you are using the originals, did you change the circlip or are you re-using the old ones? I have had issues over the years with clips, especially aftermarket ones. I only use Volvo clips which I believe you can still get. Also, try using a little trans oil on the splines especially when it is cold to try to get momentum on the cold steel.

I don't know how you do it. You must be part polar bear... or penguin, or something that likes the cold. I hate it. Having said that, I may be pulling an engine in the coming weeks, outside.
