Squeaking from Rear Suspension 2008 XC70
150,000 miles, I live in Montana, so car rarely gets hot, but sees really cold (for US, apologies to my Canadian neighbors) From the left (US driver’s side) rear axle/suspension area I have a squeaking noise I cannot locate. Sounds like a rubber bushing squeak. Squeaks for any bump or piece of gravel on road. When accelerating up hill there’s no squeak. When road surface is wet it does it squeak. If I spray the undercarriage at car wash it does not squeak. I changed out the sway bar bushings and sway bar end links ( rubber looked a little worn on both), that did not fix it. Anyone have experience with this one, or good ideas?

Is '08 the first year for P3 XC70? I have a similar sounding squeak on mine. I have read when the trailing arm bushings wear, it moves enough that something rubs on a bracket that holds a brake line (I think). Mine will mercifully go away when it's wet but doesn't stay gone long anymore.

I am tackling similar issue on my 2011 XC70 with 220K+ KM and, in my case, I have concluded it is most likely the rear trailing arm bushing which I plan to replace in Spring. Here is how I came that conclusion: I have relatively new rear springs, shocks, end links. Noise goes away when weather is cold. On warm days, the noise happens when I am turning the car. The give away is both rear tires have noticeable inside tire wear and the alignment shop could not properly align rear wheel toe.
I am now trying to find best way to replace trailing arm bushings without having to spend $500 on tooling...

FCP Euro has a Youtube video where they replaced the bushings with Powerflex multi-part bushings. Not for the faint of heart.

Actually, it was that video that got me to zero in on trailing link bushing. What I liked about that video: how to remove the bushing with a cutter. What I am doing different from that video: 1] not removing trailing link arm from the car, 2] not installing powerflex bushing because of cost and stiffer ride

Were you successful? How did it go?
