U.S market import.
Fuel gauge in gallons,speedometer in miles,different style steering wheel and airbag,ecc in F,passenger side airbag in '95 (E.U market cars didn't had them untill '96)and no side blinkers on the fenders.

As much as I hate to disagree with Misha, my 94 T5M and my 95 NA both have a passenger airbag. The 94 has no SIPS, though. Bad photo of my 94's dash attached.
Both were delivered to Austria. Maybe there were differences within Europe.

I'm a bit surprised now since i had never seen a pre '96 for E.U market with passenger side airbag on the dash.
U.S market cars...yes....but E.U cars no.

Were they bought new?

Is there a possibility that upper part of the dash was replaced somewhere in their lifetime since i have seen few '96 & '97 without passenger side airbags because they were in an accident and upper part of the dash was replaced with pre '96 ones.

When i look closer on the picture you posted...it seems that upper and lower part have some differences in the colour tone.
Upper is gray and lower is gray blueish.

I will try to make a better photo during the daytime. both my 94 and my 95 were purchased from the original owners. and the dash of that 94 had never been removed, it was in perfect condition when I tore it apart to replace the odometer gear.

I just checked an Austrian used auto site and you're right, alot of them had no passenger air bag. but these two for example have one as well:

Car from the 2nd picture...headlights,side lights and both bumpers are replaced from facelifted 850...from '95 and later.
Steering wheel is from '95 and later.

'94 (before facelift in '95)have different style bumpers,bigger headlights(one bulb style where '95+ have dual bulb headlights) and sidelights.

Only tail lights are corresponding to '94.

So...something is wrong here since everything i mentioned doesn't correspond with those pre-facelift tail lights.

On the side note...all pre '96 models which didn't had passenger side airbag suffered from deformation of upper side of the dash on passenger side...just in between glovebox and dashboard...so a lot of them were replaced with '95+ upper side of dashboard,since that is the only way.

'95+ dashboards don't have that problem.

My '95 has both sips and passenger bag, (but no obd plug). Agreeing with Clemens on that one.

Passenger side air bags were not factory fitted in European cars, they were a £300 optional extra

oh, the good ole times when the UK was still part of civiliced Europe.

I'd dare to proclaim that probably each significant European market had various aftermarked options included depending on the national dustributor. Since back then every European country had to certify and legalize a vehicle individually, country specific specs could easily be added or not used for all models.
Afaik the 855 3rd brake light was illegal in Germany because it sat too low to be a third brake light. In Austria it was legal, though.
Austrian delivered Skodas had ABS and airbags standard, while still being an option in Skoda's home country, the Czech republic (to help keep the costs as low as possible in times where people in the former soviet countries barely made enough to live).
Any car delivered to the UK would differ from continental Europe because of RHD.

My car was not part of the normal Volvo Cars UK Limited import programme. It was first registered in Germany where it was sold new through the Volvo Tourist and Diplomat scheme to a family who were UK citizens working on a military base in Mönchengladbach. It never arrived in the UK until 2½ years later

Thanks Neil, I also have the original order sheet for my car which is dated Friday 19th April 1996
The car rolled off the production line on Friday 10th October 1996

The 8th of July date is when the order was placed at Ghent, one of the blanked out areas has the date the order was raised on 19th April
