Well I got a junkyard run in as I had hoped. Almost tropical at +7C but it was lethal under foot with packed wet ice and ice pools under the cars. Fun...........Not!

It is good that many of the usual apes have not figured out the an 04 C70 convertible is a P80. The chassis brace and the front sub-frame brace were both still there. Managed to get them out and as Chuck predicted I did not get squished in the process. I had taken my new hi-impact De-Walt impact driver and was totally un-impressed with it. Slower than heck and could barely turn a bolt. Only discovered when I got home that there is a hidden adjustment button which had it set at the lowest setting. :?

Also pulled the alternator (what a pain that is) as well as the door lock control unit. In fact I pulled 2. One from a 99 S70 and the 2nd from the 00 V70 base. I only took the S70 as I had managed to remove it without destroying it considering how hard they are to access. The S70 though had the lower dash out making it more accessible to figure out how it comes out.

The exhaust VVT valve was also sitting there although the inlet had gone. So it has come home to join the rest.

Also pulled 2 sets of front window guides as they are NLA (well certainly the LHS one is). Both look in good shape.

Also pulled the front lower speakers from the C70. They are huge! I did't pull the upper or rear speakers as I had had enough by then!

Back to snow tonight and -15C into the weekend. Yay for us...............!

I just pulled one of these last week. I would be very interested to hear how you managed to get this installed.

Thanks,

Neil.

That's a lovely wagon. Though Scotland has the steering wheel on the wrong side, they didn't manage to reverse the fan blade direction on the passenger's side Columba wheels. Am I the only one with right side fan blades going in the "right" direction?

How did you manage to get under a car at a junkyard in order to get the brace? In the North East USA, cars are lucky to be sitting on their wheels and more likely to have wheels off, undercarriages flat on the mud. Do you bring a heavy jack and jack stands? How could they be safely supported on muddy junkyard ground?

Most yards (at least near me) have the cars supported on stacked steel wheels. Basically one vertical welded to one laying horizontally on the ground. One of those at each corner. They are usually decently sturdy. I’ve never had one fall, and I’ve tried to knock them over when I’ve found them extremely unstable. We’ll just say that I was doing that to prevent someone else from being injured by it…

That is exactly what they do here too. Most cars have the wheels removed if they are alloys and they sell those to second hand resellers although sometimes they sell sets themselves if the tires are good. Only wheels that get left on are steelies usually.

The only issue I usually had is they used to rest them on the rear spare tire well and they would bend those when the weight was put on them. It was a bugger when you tried to remove the rear Nivomats on AWD P80's as they collapsed just enough t stop you pulling them through the rear control arms. I learned to take a chisel and hammer to dig a hole under them to give me enough room to remove the shocks!

Thank you FireFox31, It's extremely rare having 'sided' Columba wheels, I've only seen one set here in the UK and they are on a car which is the same colour as mine

I think I've already told that story, but I once bought a set of 5 Columbas and never used them because I went 302mm.
Sold the tireless one to a guy, and the 4 others with tires to another guy.

Found out later that Columbas can be sided, and looking at my pictures the lone wheel was reverse, and the set of 4 was 3 regular + 1 reverse :?

I've had my rear door panels off my V70 for about two months already after a speaker install, been lazy I guess. But I finally started welding on my rusty 740 wagon and its going very well.
