Something that annoyed me with the 850 was the floor hatch cover in the boot (trunk) area. Why did Volvo not have some method of support to hold it in the open position! The 7 seat cars have a hook that clips onto the back of the rear seat although that wouldn’t work with a cargo cover in place.
The hatch towards the rear of the car (nearest the bumper) isn’t a problem as it can easily be lifted off and out the way if required, however the hatch towards the front is fixed and rather cumbersome if you ever need to remove or replace the spare wheel unless you have 3 hands and are 7 feet tall. I decided to remedy this by fitting a metal stay to the hatch area bolting the stay to the bodywork to allow it to swing upwards so that the hatch lid can rest against the stay. This allows the lid to be in the open position without having to hold it, I can now easily retrieve anything from underneath the hatch without having to hold it open.
