Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
I have a '96 turbo wagon which has developed an exhaust leak. When I got it up on the ramps I found that the expansion bellows between the turbo and catalytic is bad. In Volvo's wisdom the whole shebang is one piece from the turbo flange to somewhere beyond the cat. I'd rather not have to buy the whole thing just to replace one bad piece. Any thoughts on where to find an expansion joint that will work? I have the hacksaw and welder on standby.
I'd say a junk yard...otherwise you're in for the whole thing at the dealer's prices. You might try giving www.erievovo.com a CALL...don't write- CALL.
+1 on MIJ's thoughts. I assume this is the version of the downpipe is the one with the braided flex line to the pipe that runs into the catalytic converter. I have seen nothing in the aftermarket that can replicate it so a "good used" is likely your best option.
I got my IPD parts catalog yesterday (This is like the red Christmas Sears Catalog for adults) and their high performance version will set you back a cool $895.00.
Good link. Summit Racing carries some but they're longer. I'm taking it in to the local exhaust shop Monday. They gave me an estimate of $80 installed so it really isn't worth messing with myself. I'll post back with how it turns out.
