94 T5, how does the door handle fit into the door lock mechanism? Topic is solved

With Neil's help I was able to troubleshoot that the driver's door lock mechanism screwed up my central locking system.
Removing everything was fairly easy. But, and here is where it get's nasty, I cannot for my late mother's life get the door handle to snap over that bolt that opens the door from outside.
Do I need to remove the locking cylinder from the handle so that the cylinder rod (that goes into the white plastic lever) isn't in the way?

Any hints are appreciated

I can't offer any hints, but I can confirm it is a PITA to get that all back together.

I recently had to remove the handle from my wife's car to retrieve the remnants of the small spring for the key hole "flap" that had lodged itself in the bottom of the tumbler. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to get the handle and lock arm to all line back up.

I agree there *has* to be an easier method than hoping it will all line up, but I wasn't able to come across any clues at the time.

Any hints on that spring removal? I have not locked the Kat in three months because of that same problem

Have you removed the outside door handle? It should be held in place by a single screw on the rear of the door. I did a 98 V70 door lock recently and don't recall having to take anything off. As I suggested in Clemens other thread on diagnosing the issue, drilling out (V/S 70) or removing the lower window guide screw may give you more room to work. Caution here is that specially 850 guides like to rust solid and break. In both cases that guide is NLA new.

I will say a lot of engineering terms were used in the process but it did take a while and was a faff.

I removed the handle mainly because I needed to get it vertical to allow the spring bits to fall out.

I guess if you could tip the car on its side, you could probably do it w/o removing the handle.

It may be possible if you magnetize a small screwdriver or the sort, you might be able to fish it out that way.

Chuck, you made me think. I found a solution that made it really esay to put everything back together. I will write up something tomorrow.
The badic idea is to wrap a ziptie around the counter weight on the bottom, pull the counterweight towards the inside and fix it with duct tape right where my finger points. Now the upper ball joint like bolt moves closer to the ouer door shell and the key rod can easily be pushed into the slot of the white disc. once everything is seated, remove the zip tie.
