It is possible it could crack if over-tightened. How soft is the lower hose? I have found that if you re-use hoses when changing radiators or any connection, they sometimes won't re-shape to the new connector and can bunch, stretch or just not shrink to the new connection.

PITA I know, but only way to find out is to drain the radiator and remove the bottom hose the check both sides of the union for issues.

I found coolant weeping from Blue Steel’s lower radiator hose. I tried changing the worm-drive hose clamp with a new one, which slowed it, but there’s still a slight leak. I wonder if the replacement Nissens rad has a crack at the lower hose port.

If possible I always try to slice away the portion of any hose where the old hose clamp use to be. As long as the tension, due to the shorter length of hose is minimal it should be fine.

I never have luck getting the rubber hoses to not leak. So I always end up buying silicone hoses. They seem to shape, seal, and reseal well.

Is the 99+ dipstick constructed differently?

99+ upgrade? I like the dipstick on my 96 better. I haven't directly compared the two, however. I can't say exactly what's different between the two. The 96 is orange, and I think the 99 is red like what you show. I think the steel part is different somehow.

The 99+ have two O-rings, which means the tube isnt full of condensation all winter

You have to replace the dipstick and tube as they are both different from the -98 version

I bought some brake pads I don't need immediately, because of price.... I found Akebono front pads on clearance at Rockauto and bought the last set. With shipping, and the spring retainers I spent about $21. The first set I bought, I spent triple that at FCP, and then used them on the S70 out of necessity, when I intended them for the 850.

I notice Akebono has two lines, "Euro" and "ProACT". The FCP pads I think are the Euro line, and the discount pads I just bought are the ProACT, but I'm not sure it's anything more than marketing.
