Hey All:
I am new to this site so please bear with me if my question has been addressed in a previous post.
I own a 1997 Volvo S90 which I bought new. While it currently has 110,000 miles on the dash, it still performs like a champ. I have been lucky to have a trouble free ownership experience.
Two weeks ago the check engine light came on. Since I am due for a maintenance visit in July, I just performed a cursory essential systems check and carried on about my usual routine.
On Thursday I stopped by a local garage to have my annual state emissions inspection completed. The car failed the emissions test. The stated reason for the failure was: OBD Trouble Code: P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)
On Friday I dropped by the local Volvo service center to make an appointment for this coming week. Oddly, the guy working in parts was unable to find the replacement part in the computer. There was also a polite warning that once the tech guys hooked the car up to the computer- larger repair issues might be identified- requiring additional labor, parts and of course higher cost.
While I have come to expect Volvo Service Dept prices to be excessive, I get the impression that next weeks visit is going to be really pricey.
Has anyone had experience with fault code: P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)? If yes, (1) what was your outcome? (2) what parts should I expect to be replaced and (2) How much should I expect to pay for the repair(s)?
Thanks for your help!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
I have not had this problem but this is what my book says about it:

It may be something simple that you can fix yourself (adjust the switch) or it may go deeper.
Bill.
