The machine was hooked up and first protocol is removal of any gas already in the system. There was nothing extracted which meant all gas in the system had escaped which isn't a good sign, the machine then does a vacuum test which I expected it to fail and was surprised that it passed, a couple of minutes later fresh oil and gas recharged the engine was started with trepidation not knowing if the compressor would kick on. I was relieved when the mechanic told me it was all good and everything was working. Another job ticked off the list.
Cheers!

Winter storm in the forecast offered idle time to look further into the stabilizer mount's failing fasteners. Pieces of helicoil came out with the two of the four M10x1.5; these are from the 70mm. Is it normal to find these pieces?

An A/C system that is leaking will not pass a proper evacuation. There The vaccuum pump must be shut off after achieving a good micron value and verifying that it doesn't rise. That's what indicates a leak. You can pull a vaccuum as low as you want but if you don't verify it holds after shutting off the pump, you've made the entire procedure useless.

A proper leak search needs to be done with either dye or an electronic sniffer.

Sorry to say your car will probably lose it's charge again soon.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

For now, removed and replaced one M10 x 1.5 x 70mm with 5/16" x 16 x 3.5"; long enough to put a serrated flange nut to hold the mount till I have a time-sert fix in place.

Gave the V70 a wash to remove the salt that it collected yesterday driving back from Dundee to Glasgow. After washing and drying I treated the door seals to a liberal coat of Gummi-pflege
